European Assessment Document (EAD)

Let's Understand EAD

A European Assessment Document (EAD) is a harmonized technical specification created by the European Organisation for Technical Assessment (EOTA) to serve as the foundation for European Technical Assessments (ETAs). The EAD, together with the ETA, enables manufacturers to obtain CE marking for construction products not fully covered by a harmonized European standard (hEN) under the Construction Products Regulation (EU) 305/2011. This CE marking allows products to be marketed freely throughout the European Economic Area (EEA), as well as in Switzerland and Turkey.

From the implementation of the CPR until the end of 2021, EOTA has developed 583 EADs. Based on these documents, EOTA's Technical Assessment Bodies have issued 10,519 ETAs. This system facilitates the marketing of innovative and non-standard construction products by ensuring they meet essential EU requirements.

Facilitates CE Marking

EADs provide a pathway for manufacturers to obtain CE marking for products not fully covered by harmonized standards, ensuring compliance with EU regulations.

Regulatory Clarity

By establishing clear technical specifications, EADs help manufacturers meet essential EU requirements, reducing the complexity of regulatory compliance.

Widespread Adoption

The development of 583 EADs and issuance of over 10,000 ETAs demonstrates the system's robustness and wide acceptance in the industry.

Market Access

With CE marking, manufacturers can market their products across the entire European Economic Area (EEA), as well as in Switzerland and Turkey, without additional national approvals.
